The arrival of the New Year is a great time to reflect on the previous year that has passed. It is an opportunity to appreciate all the good things that happened in 2024 (366 days, a day extra because of leap year!), and to reflect on what we could have done differently as individuals and as a church with the benefit of hindsight. Praise God for his many blessings and may his grace cover our shortcomings.
The start of a new year also presents a moment to look what’s ahead and to make our mark knowing that what we do matters in God’s Kingdom. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:58b, “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.” In other words, we get to take part in God’s Big Story. I hope that it sounds as exciting to you as it does to me.
