This Pentecost weekend is the 50th anniversary of the Water Eaton Church Centre and the 70th Anniversary of the foundation of St Frideswide’s Church of England (the congregation with which we share WECC).
St Frideswide’s was founded in 1955. In the 1970’s, Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church was looking for a new site in which to worship. Spurgeon’s then entered into a sharing agreement with St Frideswide’s to extend the existing St Frideswide’s site at Water Eaton. The Water Eaton Church Centre was opened on 10th June 1975.
You can find out more, including a video documenting the opening of the new Water Eaton Church Centre, on Our History page.

A Call To Any Singers!
As part of the anniversary celebration weekend, we have been asked to put a choir together to sing some of Trude Bedford’s music (former church member, musician, poet & artist at Spurgeon’s).
Singers from both congregations joined together for many years for our annual Carols for Everybody, where we sang many of Trude’s compositions, and it would be lovely to include a couple of her pieces as we share memories together at our Saturday afternoon event, 7th June, 4pm-6pm.
If you took part in Carols for Everybody or have sung some of Trude’s music more recently at events or services (we often include a couple of her carols in our Christmas services), we would love you to join us. We have arranged an initial rehearsal on Tuesday 13th May at 7pm at the Church Centre, and it would be great to see you there!
