A message from our Minister and Church Secretary regarding the upcoming building works in our Church Centre:
The Joint Church Council (the body which takes care of the Water Eaton Church Centre) has been successful in obtaining a significant government grant to fund carbon reduction and energy efficiency measures. In summary, this means we will soon replace our gas boiler with a new hybrid Air Source Heat Pump and we will have new solar panels installed on the church roof. The two systems together will help reduce our reliance on burning fossil fuel to heat our building and make for a greener, cleaner building.
The work will start next week and between 15th January and 14th February there will be some disruption to our heating system.
It is anticipated that the solar panel installation will commence on Wednesday 15th January, and the work on the heating system will start on Monday 20th January. This will mean that on occasions, from 20th January to 14th February, there will be no heating until the new system is up and running.
We are aware that changing the heating system in winter is not ideal, however the conditions of the grant state that the work must be finished by 14th February 2025; we will work hard to keep disruption to a minimum but the fact that the heating will be off for some of the time is unavoidable.
On Sundays 26th January, 2nd February and 9th February, it is likely that the building will be cold. When visiting us for Morning Worship, please consider additional layers, a hot water bottle, a blanket etc. For those who are able, you can also take part in the service via our YouTube livestream (members can access this on our Livestream Service Archive or you can contact us for the link).
Please be aware we will need to restrict access to the following areas:
- No access to the store at the rear of the kitchen (where the boiler room is)
- No access to the service yard (doors from the hall and the assembly room will have signs saying “no exit, except in emergency”)
- No access to the garden when scaffolding is up (doors from the Lounge and Assembly room will have signs saying “no exit, except in emergency”)
Fire exits will still be available in the event of an emergency, and there will still be hot and cold running water to the kitchen and toilets.
If you are in the building during the week, you may see workmen on the old organ loft platform or hear people on the roof.
If you do have any questions, please do contact us. Thank you for your understanding.
