Last week, Lighthouse Holiday Club took place in our Church Centre. Over 50 children aged 5-11 gathered together with our volunteers to learn all about God’s wonderful world through the theme of our week – science. Mung, our minister, was helping out for the first time this year. This is what he had to say about the week:
“It was my first time helping out at the Lighthouse Holiday Club. I was quite impressed by it all, though, as you can imagine, I was pretty exhausted by the end. The children had fun exploring, experimenting, singing, making and learning as they kept coming back each day.
The theme this year was exploring the wonders of the world. The children had plenty of fun experimenting with the Professor. It was quite exciting to watch the film cannisters exploding (safely) using just water and antacid tablets. The arts and crafts sessions were a fun and creative way of engaging the children too. I learnt some new things myself. Did you know that Venus is the hottest planet and not Mercury?
A massive thank you to Ruth and her team of volunteers who have given up their time to help out at the holiday club in the height of summer. I can only imagine the level of organisation and the amount of work that goes into the preparation of it and it will probably take a while to recover from it. And it was totally worth it.
There are several highlights for me. One of them is playing football with the children. None of us cared that it was 30 degrees outside!
Friendships formed between the children were beautiful to watch as they grew during a very short time together. And the opportunity to answer some of the tricky questions the children had was a real privilege. It was a chance to share the love of God and I loved it.“
Lighthouse Holiday Club will be back during the summer holidays in 2025, so watch this space!
