Meeting our New MP

Our minister, Mung Hatzaw, joined Citizens MK and YMCA Milton Keynes, to pop in and see the new MP for our constituency, Callum Anderson, at the end of his constituency surgery.

The group discussed the importance of housing for young people and working together with communities to deliver change. Citizens MK is a growing alliance of diverse community groups, including St Frideswide’s, which work together for a thriving, inclusive Milton Keynes. YMCA Milton Keynes provides supported housing for young adults in MK.

Spurgeon’s Involvement in MK Civic Life

On the subject of local politics, we have been involved in other areas of civic life over the past couple of months. Our Church Secretary attended the Civic Service at Christ the Cornerstone for the inauguration of this year’s Mayor, Cllr Marie Bradburn. This is what she had to say about the day:

I attended the Civic Service at Christ the Cornerstone for the inauguration of this year’s Mayor, Councillor Marie Bradburn. It was a real privilege to be invited to the service (you may remember that Marie came to Mung’s induction service in May as Deputy Mayor), and a pleasure to attend. Mung had also attended the civic prayer breakfast the day before, so Spurgeon’s has been well represented in the City over the last few days!

A. Boynton led the music with beautiful singing from the choir and a glorious trumpeter, whilst those of differing faiths across our city lit a candle each to be incorporated into the celebration.

As a church we have contributed £25 to the Mayor’s chosen charity, Sieve MK, which seeks to address the problem of educational underachievement of local young people. The Mayor intends to continue conversations across and between faiths during her term of office; let’s pray these will be meaningful and fruitful.

Mung, our minister, also attended the Annual Civic Prayer Breakfast and this is what he had to say about the event:

I attended the Annual Civic Prayer Breakfast hosted by Churches Together in Milton Keynes, which was held on Friday 28th June at The Church of Christ the Cornerstone. It was well attended by delegates from the Civic and Voluntary sectors, and church leaders from Milton Keynes. Speakers included Councillor Marie Bradburn, the Mayor of Milton Keynes, and representatives from Community Foundation and MK Christian Foundation.

Church leaders led prayers for the civic leaders, churches, charities, the various needs of the city including mental health, law and order, and education, and for the prosperity of the city.
