A message from our Church Secretary on Remembrance Sunday:
As we approach this year’s Remembrance Sunday, I know that several of us have visited the remarkable ‘For Your Tomorrow’ memorial installation at Stowe Gardens (as pictured below). This is a large scale depiction of 1,475 silhouettes representing the number of soldiers who lost their lives in the D Day landing of 6th June 1944. Many of us will particularly remember and give thanks for family members who left loved ones behind to serve their country in the Second World War.
The theme here is, of course, sacrifice – sacrifice in terms of lives lost, but also of lives which took a different path so that others may benefit. Our Saviour Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice out of His great love for us. As we come to this year’s Remembrance Service, let us not only acknowledge those in past and continuing conflicts around the world, but also give humble thanks to a God who loves us enough to die for us, that we might have eternal life.
