Spring Update from Benon Kayanja

Back in November 2025, we officially became a link-up church for Benon Kayanja (pictured right), who works in the BMS office in Kampala, Uganda.

You can read the original article here. More information about Benon can be found on the BMS World Mission website.

Our newsletters always contain a section on ‘BMS World Mission Prayers’. At the beginning of March, this section included a prayer for Benon’s work in Uganda. See below:

Sunday 1st March Uganda’s historical conflicts deeply affected ordinary people, displacing families, destroying livelihoods and creating long-lasting wounds. BMS World Mission’s partner Justice Livelihoods Health (JLH) is working in Gulu and Kasese to bring practical and spiritual help. Benon Kayanja, our link mission worker, is the Executive Director of JLH. He has served with BMS since 2013. Pray for the well-being of Benon’s family (his wife Dorothy and sons Favour and Bright), for unity in the household and for good health. Dorothy and Benon began to host a twice-weekly house church in their home last year. Please pray for spiritual fruit amongst those who have attended. Pray for safety and godly protection for Benon during travel and for God’s grace and favour when challenges or obstacles appear on any journey.

We sent him a copy of this last newsletter and received the following response from him:

Warm greetings to you and to all our dear brothers and sisters at Spurgeon Baptist Church.

Thank you for sharing the newsletter. I was deeply encouraged to see the prayer focus for my family and the ministry on page 4 of SBC News. Please convey our heartfelt gratitude to the church family for remembering us so intentionally before the Lord. It is humbling and strengthening to know that we are upheld in prayer across the miles.

It was also wonderful to read about the Alpha course and the Holy Spirit weekend. We are rejoicing with you and praying that this season will bear lasting fruit, and that Easter will indeed be a time of baptisms and new life in Christ. Please assure Rev. Mung and the fellowship of our continued prayers for the church’s ministry, outreach activities, and all the special events planned in the coming weeks.

I am also glad to share that, God willing, I will be in the UK in June 2026 and will certainly plan to come and visit you in Bletchley. I very much look forward to reconnecting in person, sharing more about the work, and strengthening our partnership in the Lord.

As you pray for us, may I humbly share two specific prayer requests:

  1. Pray for wisdom and grace as we continue to strengthen leadership and expand community-based initiatives, that every step will be aligned with God’s purposes.
  2. Pray for spiritual fruit from the house fellowship gatherings in our home, that those attending will grow in discipleship and boldness in their faith.

Thank you again for your friendship, encouragement, and faithful partnership. We remain committed to praying for you all as you serve your community so faithfully.

With gratitude and every blessing,
Benon

We are working hard to arrange a visit from Benon early in June (possibly Saturday 6th) – so please do watch this space! In the meantime, let’s pray for Benon and his family using the prayer requests he has mentioned above.
