A Right Royal Knees Up!

On Sunday 7th May, the Water Eaton Church Centre was full of fun and celebration for the coronation weekend as along with St Frideswide’s, we led a shared Coronation service, followed by a community lunch, bringing together the local community and folk from both congregations.

Our Baptist Union President, Rev Hayley Young, who was present at the Coronation service in Westminster Abbey the day before (and who led our service a couple of weeks ago), had this to say on social media:

“Today I had the amazing privilege to represent Baptist Union of Great Britain at the Coronation of King Charles. If I am honest I was not looking forward to the three hour seated wait before the service started but I got to chat with Stephen Fry, Maggie Smith & Nick Clegg! Life as Baptist Together President is varied for sure!”

Here at the Church Centre, we perhaps didn’t meet actors and politicians, but it was good to share worship with our friends from St Frideswide’s, and a joy to welcome so many to the Community Lunch afterwards. The Youth Hall and Assembly Rooms were full of people sharing fun, food, music and fellowship together – what a great atmosphere! A Lancaster fly-past outside the building rounded off the day beautifully.

Below are some pictures from the day. Our thanks to Douglas Sellers for taking them!

A big thanks to all who organised the event and worked hard at setting up and packing down, and also to those who have volunteered as part of the Big Help Out. If you weren’t able to join us last weekend and would like to know more about how you might be able to volunteer, our upcoming Lighthouse event, or our 1st Bletchley BBGA Company might be a good place to start!
